The Advocacy Academy develops skills and empowers disadvantaged young people to become active citizens and change leaders. They deliver in-depth training programmes, including residential placements, for 16-25 year olds with lived experiences of poverty, racism and marginalisation. Over 200 young people have been trained through their programmes to date. Combining the best in youth work and community organising, they develop the platform from which young people can turn their anger into making real change in their communities, while also improving broader employment and life skills.

Project: Expanding capacity and outreach

Their project aims to grow the organisation's impact by expanding their capacity and outreach to meet the increased demand for their programmes and expand to demographics of high need. This project runs alongside their transition to a new purpose-built youth centre in the heart of Brixton that provides a much-needed resource to the locality including collaboration with other grassroots initiatives and emerging youth-led campaign groups.

Desired outcomes:

  • Increase the number of places across their programmes by 20%
  • Increase referrals from underrepresented backgrounds
  • Expand network of youth organisations and schools to initiate a new national framework for youth organising groups and collaborative working.
