Signal Film and Media is a grassroots creative media charity based in Barrow in Furness - one of the most deprived and isolated communities in England.

They have dedicated over 12 years to supporting residents in disadvantaged communities to overcome the challenges they face, by providing opportunities in creative digital media to address disengagement, low self-esteem, poor health, and deprivation. They use the exciting 'hook' of digital technology to attract the town's most in-need and marginalised individuals.

Signal provide a stimulating, year-round programme of film, media and arts that is open to everyone and has many access points. Their programme includes targeted activities for children and young people facing multiple issues such as poverty and low educational attainment, delivering valuable experiences that build confidence and pride as well as yielding new skills and qualifications.

Isla’s grant will help them deliver their exciting new youth-led project project, where young people will meet regularly to design, plan and deliver their own media projects.
