Citizens UK are a national community organising movement, developing local leaders within a range of campaign areas. The Isla grant will be supporting their Homelessness and Housing campaigns work, and will support in the areas of policy, training and building the infrastructure for national collaboration with homelessness organisations.


By the end of the project they aim to:


  • Ensure a time limit on temporary accommodation.
  • Mediate the power of the state and the market in making sure civil society is part of the solution to the UK’s housing crisis and homelessness crisis.
  • Ensure that cash-strapped Local Authorities receive adequate funding from Central Government to carry out immediate repairs and improve living conditions, some of which are causing physical and mental ill-health and increasing pressure on the NHS.
  • Ensure  that housing standards are resourced and enforced, with a focus on Barking and Dagenham.
  • Through applying the Voter Registration Champions scheme Citizens UK seeks to work with members and partners to ensure participation in the democratic process.
